In May 2015, National Bike Month, The Tampa Downtown Partnership announced Phase I of a new bicycle-friendly business certification program. It rolled-out with 26 locally owned businesses earning the “Bike-Friendly Tampa” distinction. Ground floor retail and restaurant businesses were targeted for this first phase. To qualify, the business must demonstrate their commitment to promoting and supporting cycling to:
- Customers
- Employees
- The community at large
As part of their ongoing programming, “BFT” businesses will provide continued:
- Safe & secure bike parking
- Safety instruction
- Enrollment in TBARTA’s Emergency Ride Home program
- Bike repair contacts or onsite kits
- Offer discounts and value adds for customers
The “BFT” Program enhances the bicycle experience, and by doing so, adds to Tampa’s urban vibe:
- Increased Hip Factor
- Family Fun
- Healthy Lifestyle
- Sustainability
- Economic Viability

Partners for this program include Tampa Downtown Partnership, the City of Tampa, Florida Department of Transportation and Pedal Power Promoters. This group will begin to work on Phase II of the program, targeting large downtown employers in the near future.
